Suggested Packing List & Tips and Tricks

Cuboree is fast approaching, and excitement is building for what promises to be an unforgettable adventure for our Cub Scouts. One of the best ways to set your Cub Scout up for success is by packing smart. With all Cub Scouts travelling by bus onto the site and managing their own gear throughout the week, thoughtful packing makes a big difference to confidence, comfort, and independence.

Here are our top tips and tricks to help your Cub arrive at Cuboree organised, prepared, and ready for the adventure ahead.

One Bag, One Cub, One Big Adventure

All Cubs should bring one bag only, around 75 litres in size. This bag must fit everything: clothing, bedding, toiletries and sleeping gear, with nothing attached to the outside. In addition, they will require a Day Pack for transport to and from Cuboree and each day at Cuboree.

When choosing a bag, keep these tips in mind:

  • Soft duffle bags work best
  • Wheels are fine, but not essential
  • Your Cub must be able to lift and manage it themselves
  • Everything needs to fit inside, including the sleeping bag and mattress

If your Cub can’t carry it, it’s probably too big or too full.

Parents are encouraged to supervise, but Cubs who pack their own gear:

  • Know what they’ve brought
  • Can find things quickly
  • Feel confident and independent
  • Try laying everything out on the bed and packing together a few times before Cuboree.

Extra handy tips:

  • Pack each day’s clothes in a labelled zip-lock bag
  • Dirty clothes go straight back into the same bag
  • Pack swimmers into their own bag for Water Activities.

Cuboree Uniform & Participant Pack

Everyone attending Cuboree 2026 as a participant will receive a Cuboree Participation Pack in the mail before Cuboree. This pack will include:

  • Cuboree 2026 Long Sleeve Polo Shirt
  • Cuboree 2026 Hat
  • Cuboree 2026 Scarf
  • Cuboree 2026 Woggle
  • Cuboree 2026 Event Badge
  • Cuboree 2026 Subcamp Badge Set

Please be advised the Cuboree badge has been approved as an event badge to be worn on the Scout uniform. The Cuboree badge can be worn by all participants of this event. Please remember only one (1) event badge may be worn at any one time. The Cuboree badge may be worn from 1 April 2026 until 1 July 2026 at which time it must be removed.

The Subcamp Badge Set are keepsakes, also known as Blanket Badges. These do not need to be packed or worn at Cuboree. They are also not to be put on your uniform.

To and from Cuboree as well as for off-site activity days, everyone will be required to wear their Cuboree Uniform. Which is;

  • Cuboree 2026 Long Sleeve Polo Shirt
  • Cuboree 2026 Hat
  • Cuboree 2026 Scarf
  • Cuboree 2026 Woggle

You will not be required to bring or wear your regular Scout uniform to Cuboree 2026. These should be left at home.

Medication

All medication will be managed onsite by our Health & Wellbeing Team and your Subcamp Welfare Leader, ensuring it is stored, handled, and administered safely.

Original and correct packaging and labelling is required. Before you pack, please check the following:

  • All medications are clearly labelled with your Cub Scout’s name and dosage instructions. A letter from your Doctor is also helpful.
  • Medications are in original packaging or Webster packs from the Chemist. Webster packs are highly recommended to minimise errors and save time.
  • Do NOT make your own Webster Packs or organiser. They must be from the Chemist with the correct labelling.

Loose, unlabelled, unlisted, or non-prescribed medications cannot be accepted. For safety and compliance, any such items will be disposed of and will not be returned. These include the likes of Panadol, Cold & Flu tablets, Cough drops, Vitamins and supplements. Please ensure everything is listed on AMS.

Ventolin and EpiPens may be kept with the Cub Scout, their Leader must know where it is stored and check it in on arrival. We encourage they bring a spare one to be kept with the medication.

Packing List Recommendations

Below you will find some tips and recommendations about some items on the packing list.

Day Pack

Everyone needs a small day pack, suitable for daily use. We recommend choosing a pack that is:

  • Large enough to hold: everything on the packing list, plus their snacks.
  • Lightweight and comfortable
  • Easy to zip open and close
  • Encourage your Cub to practise packing and carrying their bag before Cuboree.
Towels
Bedding

All Cub Scouts will be travelling to Cuboree by bus, so luggage space is limited. All bedding must fit inside the main bag, and nothing can be carried or strapped to the outside.

Mattress / Sleeping Mat

We recommend a single self-inflating mattress. These are compact, lightweight, and suitable for camp conditions. Please note:

  • Yoga or exercise mats are not suitable
  • King-sized mats are not suitable
  • Blow-up/air mattresses are not permitted
  • Stretcher beds and swags are not permitted

Self-inflating mattresses also roll tightly for transport and are much easier for Cub Scouts to manage on their own. They must be able to packup and maintain their own bedding.

Sleeping Bags

Evenings can be cool at Baden-Powell Park. We recommend a sleeping bag rated to around +5°C for comfortable nights. This is paired with suitable Pyjamas and a sleeping mat. Please remember the following:

  • Cubs do not need to roll their sleeping bag tightly, it is easier and quicker to stuff it into its bag, or fold into a pillowcase to fit inside their pack. Most are now designed to be stuffed into their compression bag.
  • Not all sleeping bags are made for outdoor camping
  • Character/novelty sleeping bags (e.g. Disney styles) are not suitable
